I want to buy a house again. I think it is the weather. Some thing about the spring makes homeownership seem less oppressive. I think I may be growing up too, the circus is in town and I have not once thought about running away with them. It could also be because Midlife is buying a new house. I called my new realtor this morning and ask him to look around for me; the old one is persona non grata due to some cattiness on my part. Someone please help me remember why buying a house is a bad idea.

How about: buying a house in Louisville means you have to stay in Louisville. Possibly for years.

You can't call your landlord to come and fix things.

I really miss that.

Property Taxes? Not sure about there. But where I'm from they're a bitch. :)

I agree with Cyrano, that would mean that you have to stay in Louisville for a certain amount of time in order to accomplish this task.

Don't forget about the time and energy involved in searching for a house that not only fits your budget, but is also in the appropriate neighborhood and in good enough shape that you would want to take possession.

Also, any repairs, insurance, taxes, etc. etc. will come directly out of your pocket.

A couple of positive is that it is yours so you can do what you want and the tax deductions are pretty good in terms of closing costs, interest, etc.

If you think you can handle all that-go for it.

Top 5 reasons to buy a house

1. You would have to stay in Louisville for at least 3-5 years, meaning you can’t abandon me!
2. The boys can destroy the yard and house, and you don’t have to worry about the landlord.
3. We can go on a huge shopping spree for bad clothes every spring with our tax refunds.
4. You could decorate the house by liquid nailing funky fabric to all the walls
5. All the cool tools and gadgets you need to buy to maintain the house.

Top 5 reasons not to buy the house.

1. You have to stay here for at least 3 more years.
2. If the boys destroy the house, you’ll never sell it and I can’t promise to be in Louisville after the 5 year mark!
3. You have to maintain it yourself, and that’s just scary to think about.
4. You have to become a responsible adult.
5. You may actually have to postpone buying another new car or new clothes.
